Terms of Use

Last updated 2026-07-30

By using TheOmenBook, you agree to the terms on this page. They're meant to be genuinely readable, not a wall of boilerplate — if anything here is unclear, the contact page is open.

The content is folklore and cultural history, not advice

Every page on this site presents omens and superstitions as cultural history, for reflection and entertainment. Nothing here is medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice, and nothing here should be treated as a prediction about your future or a substitute for your own judgment. Where a page touches a sensitive subject — illness, death, or grief in particular — it is written to be respectful and factual, never to frighten.

Accuracy

We research each page carefully and disclose honestly when a belief's history is disputed or unknown (see our Methodology page). Folklore spans thousands of overlapping oral traditions, and we can't guarantee every claim on every page is the final word on a subject — if you spot an error, please tell us.

Purchases and donations

The companion guide is a digital PDF delivered by email within 24 hours of purchase, processed via Stripe. Because it's a digital product delivered promptly, purchases are generally non-refundable once delivered, except where required by law; if something goes wrong with delivery, contact us and we'll make it right. Donations made through the site are voluntary and non-refundable.

Using the site's content

You're welcome to link to any page on TheOmenBook. Please don't republish our written pages wholesale elsewhere without permission — short quotations with a link back are fine and appreciated.

No warranty

The site and its content are provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We work hard to keep the folklore research accurate and the tools working correctly, but we can't guarantee the site will be error-free or uninterrupted at all times.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TheOmenBook is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, its content, or its tools. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited in your jurisdiction.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which TheOmenBook operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer-protection law provides otherwise.

Your account-free relationship with the site

TheOmenBook doesn't require you to create an account to read any page, use any of the free tools, or subscribe to the newsletter, and these terms apply the same way whether or not you've made a purchase or donation. If you do subscribe or purchase, the additional terms in the Privacy Policy about how that specific data is handled apply alongside this page.

Severability

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable by a court, the rest of the terms remain in effect — an unenforceable clause doesn't invalidate the whole agreement.

Changes

We may update these terms occasionally; the date at the top of this page reflects the last update. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a refund on the companion guide?+

Because it's delivered digitally and promptly, purchases are generally final once delivered — but if something went wrong on our end, contact us and we'll sort it out.

Is anything on this site medical or psychological advice?+

No, and it isn't intended to be read that way, even on pages that touch sensitive or health-adjacent topics.

Can I quote a page in my own writing?+

Short quotations with a link back to the original page are welcome; please don't republish an entire page elsewhere without asking first.

What happens if I disagree with a future change to these terms?+

If you don't agree with an updated version of these terms, your option is to stop using the site; continued use after an update is treated as acceptance, consistent with how most online services handle changes to their terms.

Do these terms cover the free tools as well as paid products?+

Yes — the same terms apply across the entire site, whether you're reading a free omen page, using a free tool, or completing a purchase.
